As the provincial government strives for fiscal re-balance, there is a growing need for innovative approaches to the structure and function of government - this creates new expectations with respect to the role of industry organizations and individual proponents. Modernization requires the right balance between government oversight and stakeholder accountability. This workshop will provide insights into the new direction that government is taking and the roles of both government and industry.
Key areas of focus will include:
An overview of the Endangered Species Act requirements for waterpower projects;
An update on Water Management Planning and Operational Plans;
An overview of the proposed changes to the Permit to Take Water approval process and Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act; and
A discussion of the Class EA for Waterpower Projects and the Environmental Activity and Sector Registry.
Mike Passey, Ministry of Natural Resources
Chloe Stuart, Ministry of Natural Resources
Ian Kerr, Ministry of the Environment
Paul Norris, Ontario Waterpower Association
