OWA and Chiefs of Ontario Signing Ceremony

The Ontario Waterpower Association (OWA) and the Chiefs of Ontario (COO) announced on October 18th that the two organizations have reached agreement on a “Letter of Intent” to provide a framework for communication and collaboration.  The agreement is based on the principles of the “Two Row Wampum”, respecting the dignity and integrity of one another and stresses the importance of non-interference.  The formal signing ceremony took place on the evening of October 18th at the tenth anniversary “Power of Water” Conference, at the Westin Harbour Castle, Toronto.

On the evening of October 18th the OWA announced Robert Steele, Senior Aquatic Biologist, Natural Resource Solutions as the 2010 R.R. Dodokin award recipient. 

In recognition of individual contribution to waterpower in Ontario  
 Background:  Since 2005, the Ontario Waterpower Association has annually recognized the outstanding contribution of an individual to the advancement of waterpower in Ontario.  The recognition takes place at the OWA’s Annual General Meeting and Power of Conference with an award named after the late Ronald R. Dodokin.    Ronald R. Dodokin  Mr. Ronald R. Dodokin was a driving force in Ontario’s waterpower industry in 1980s and 1990s, defining the entrepreneurial spirit, commitment and passion that typifies waterpower proponents.  He led the creation of the former “Waterpower Association of Ontario”, an organization that shared many of the same objectives and aspirations of the OWA.  Mr. Dodokin’s family has graciously agreed to the use of his name for this award.  Previous Recipients  In 2005, the award was presented to Mr. David Carter, Regional Power In 2006, the award was presented to Mr. Murray McFarlane, Hatch Energy In 2007, the award was presented to Mr. Clary Gatien, Northern Ontario Power Corp. In 2008, the award was presented to Mr. Bill Backlund, Ontario Hydro In 2009, the award was presented to Mr. Bob Yap, Ontario Power Generation

Unveiling of the New OWA Logo

On the evening of October 18th at the "Power of Water" gala dinner and award ceremony the OWA revealed its new corporate logo. 2010 marks the  Association's 10th anniversary and in celebration of this major achievement the OWA Board of Directors undertook a review of the Association's corporate branding. This effort was largely lead by OWA Director, David Boileau. 

Mr. Boileau revealed the logo to the gala dinner guests stating,"The new logo is comprised of a turbine that is front and centre, a black wave representing the solid foundation of a powerhouse as well as the solid foundation of the OWA, last and most importantly, the clean and renewable nature of waterpower is represented by the blue wave - water in and water out."
